Doppelgängers and Eerie Encounters At The Best Western in Fresno, California

The episode kicks off at the Best Western in Fresno, California, where host Michelle recounts her hair-raising ghost story that happened during a seemingly innocent road trip, where she awoke to find a mysterious man hovering over her, only to vanish without a trace. This eerie experience sets the tone for a journey into the unknown, exploring the very essence of hauntings and the spirits that dwell among us.Next, we hear from Yvonne, a caller from the Philippines, who shares her haunting memory of encountering a doppelgänger. Imagine mistaking a figure that looks just like your mother for the real thing! Yvonne's story unfolds with an uncanny twist as she follows this apparition, only to discover that her mother is nowhere to be found. This chilling experience not only raises the hairs on the back of your neck but also delves into the fascinating world of doppelgängers—what they are, their origins, and their cultural significance. In many cultures, seeing a doppelgänger is believed to be an omen of misfortune, adding a layer of dread to Yvonne's already creepy encounter. Listeners will find themselves captivated by the exploration of these eerie stories and the unsettling nature of ghosts and spirits.

[00:00:08] Welcome to Tell Me A Ghost Story.

[00:00:14] The late night call in podcast where we delve into the world of the supernatural and explore

[00:00:20] the eerie and unexplained.

[00:00:23] I'm your host, Michelle Newman.

[00:00:27] This podcast features true stories from our callers that will send shivers down your

[00:00:32] spine and leave you questioning the existence of the afterlife.

[00:00:38] So grab a cozy blanket, turn down the lights.

[00:00:44] I was on a road trip with my high school boyfriend.

[00:00:48] We'd stopped at a best western in Fresno, California.

[00:00:51] It's still there by the way.

[00:00:53] That night when I was drifting off to sleep, I was laying on my back and I opened my

[00:00:58] eyes just a little bit.

[00:01:00] And right in front of my face, nose to nose, I saw a man hovering over me.

[00:01:06] And then in a split second, he was gone.

[00:01:10] I jumped in the bed.

[00:01:12] You know when you fall in a dream and you shake the whole bed?

[00:01:16] My high school boyfriend was like, are you okay?

[00:01:19] And I was like, oh yeah.

[00:01:21] I thought I just saw a person hovering over me and just laughed it off.

[00:01:25] I mean, it must have been a dream.

[00:01:26] It was just weirdly intense.

[00:01:29] Then he said, I thought I just saw a person hovering over me.

[00:01:34] And then we both just sat there in silence for a few minutes.

[00:01:38] And then I got up and turned on the bathroom light and we slept with that

[00:01:42] light on the rest of the night.

[00:01:47] Hi, Michelle.

[00:01:48] It's me again, Yvonne from The Philippines.

[00:01:51] And I'm back to show you one of my early memories of the paranormal.

[00:01:57] You know, come to think of it, the situation itself could actually also be

[00:02:02] possible glitch in the matrix, but I'll let you decide.

[00:02:06] So I just want to set the scene.

[00:02:09] It was late 2000, around 2002, because that was the year that my brother

[00:02:14] was born, my brother, Gio.

[00:02:16] And he was just a few months old.

[00:02:19] We were left home at home because my parents had to do their side hustle.

[00:02:27] So I was left to watch over him.

[00:02:30] Anyway, the apartment is two bedroom apartment located on the second floor.

[00:02:35] Both of the rooms are adjacent to each other.

[00:02:38] And in front of the room would be our living room slash dining room.

[00:02:46] And then just a few steps away from the living room slash dining room would be

[00:02:50] the kitchen and then right next to that to the right will be the bathroom.

[00:02:54] So it's a small two bedroom apartment, perfect for four people.

[00:02:58] I'm on my dad and me and my brother.

[00:03:03] And I was sleeping the second nap.

[00:03:05] I woke up possibly around five p.m., six p.m.

[00:03:09] to the sound of my mom's voice.

[00:03:12] And then he's opened my eyes.

[00:03:14] It was a bit blurry because I just woke up and I could actually see her.

[00:03:18] You can also hear my dad's voice.

[00:03:21] I couldn't see him.

[00:03:23] I only heard his voice.

[00:03:25] I heard him asking for change from my mom.

[00:03:27] So what I could see from when I woke up, from when I heard her,

[00:03:31] she wasn't facing me.

[00:03:32] She was facing out the door talking to my dad.

[00:03:35] She had her hair and a braid.

[00:03:38] I think she was wearing a gray shirt or a white shirt,

[00:03:42] floral short shorts.

[00:03:44] I know it was her because that was exactly what she wore when she left that day.

[00:03:49] It was a weekend.

[00:03:51] Anyway, she was grabbing her purse from back at the cabinet

[00:03:58] and then like talk to my dad.

[00:04:00] So I was so waking myself up.

[00:04:02] I was waiting for them to stop talking or stop having a conversation.

[00:04:06] And then I just heard my dad walk out the front door.

[00:04:11] I could still hear the car engine in the background when this was happening.

[00:04:17] So I was like, mom, I was whispering to her to get her attention.

[00:04:22] But I couldn't speak out loud because we're louder than that.

[00:04:27] And then I kissed my baby where there was sleeping right next to me.

[00:04:29] I didn't want to wake him up.

[00:04:31] So what is that was to just get out of bed and then I talked to her.

[00:04:36] She was just a few steps away from me, just a few inches away.

[00:04:41] And I was about to actually tap her on her shoulder.

[00:04:47] But she was walking too fast.

[00:04:50] So as we were walking out of my parents' room

[00:04:55] and then by the time she got into my room, my bedroom door was closed.

[00:05:03] So instinctively I just opened it.

[00:05:06] By the time I opened the door, the lights were off.

[00:05:10] So I was like, why is the lights off?

[00:05:14] So I decided to turn it on by the time I turned it on.

[00:05:18] My mom was in the room.

[00:05:20] I wasn't freaked out.

[00:05:22] I was just confused.

[00:05:24] I was like, why is she not there?

[00:05:26] Where did she go?

[00:05:29] In my head it was logical for me to go to the front of the door

[00:05:33] and keep down the stairs to check if my dad was there.

[00:05:37] Because usually if he would just smoke,

[00:05:39] he would either be outside the front door smoking

[00:05:42] or somewhere close to the stairs.

[00:05:46] So when I was checking, I couldn't hear the car engine anymore.

[00:05:51] I didn't see him.

[00:05:53] And when I took a peek at the front door,

[00:05:58] my phone started ringing.

[00:06:01] My phone was in the key at 3210 and I get told you

[00:06:05] my baby brother was sleeping.

[00:06:07] So it was really loud.

[00:06:09] I had to run and get to it so it wouldn't wake him up.

[00:06:13] And by the time I answered, I was like, oh no, it was my mom.

[00:06:17] So she said that they were going to be late.

[00:06:20] They had a couple more things to take care of

[00:06:24] and they promised to buy takeout and have dinner together.

[00:06:30] When she explained that they were going to be late,

[00:06:33] I told her, that's weird.

[00:06:36] I followed you going to my room.

[00:06:39] It was like, what are you saying?

[00:06:41] I thought you were home.

[00:06:42] I followed someone who looked exactly like you

[00:06:45] going from my parents or your room going to my room.

[00:06:49] And then you were gone.

[00:06:51] I heard the car, her dad, everything.

[00:06:53] You were just gone.

[00:06:55] And then they were like, you could be an angel

[00:06:57] watching over you guys since you're home alone.

[00:07:00] I was like, okay, fine.

[00:07:02] And then we had dinner that night

[00:07:06] and then she was asking me details of what happened.

[00:07:10] I told her I'm not lying.

[00:07:11] How can I tell you if that's what happened?

[00:07:13] And I heard her whisper.

[00:07:17] She's seeing stuff too.

[00:07:21] And that's when it all started for me

[00:07:25] seeing a lot of stuff and experiencing a lot of stuff.

[00:07:29] So yeah, that's for me tonight.

[00:07:33] Thanks, Michelle.

[00:07:34] See you again next time.

[00:07:39] Thanks for sharing, Yvonne.

[00:07:41] Keep them coming.

[00:07:44] In Western culture, a doppelganger

[00:07:46] is a mysterious exact double of a living person.

[00:07:49] It's a German word that literally translates to

[00:07:53] double walker or double goer.

[00:07:57] Traditionally, they've been viewed as sinister evil entities.

[00:08:01] Seeing a doppelganger has also been considered

[00:08:03] an omen of misfortune or bad luck.

[00:08:06] But modern reports of doppelgangers show

[00:08:08] while sometimes mischievous,

[00:08:11] they seem to be neither sinister or evil

[00:08:13] nor do they bring bad luck.

[00:08:15] They just seem to be going about their business

[00:08:17] as if they are normal human beings.

[00:08:20] Kind of like you said,

[00:08:22] a glitch in the matrix.

[00:08:26] That's all we have this week, folks.
