This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.
Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories about what happens when something comes home with you and decides to stay. A ghost child who followed someone home because of an act of kindness. A rental property in Georgia where everyone who lived there died or was permanently disabled. And a dead man's belongings that came back from his funeral with something still attached.
Cindy from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a true ghost story about Little Rachel, a young girl from Mitchell, Indiana, who burned to death in a Christmas fire. The connection began when Cindy donated two satchels of toys to Rachel's memorial at Christmas. Rachel followed her home and has been there ever since. Cindy is a retired Indiana State Police civilian with thirty years of service who has had Rachel investigated by paranormal researchers, captured EVPs connected to her presence, and watched Rachel possess a haunted doll that Cindy keeps to this day. Little Rachel is not threatening. She is persistent. And Cindy has made her peace with having a Christmas fire ghost as a permanent houseguest.
Phil from Chattanooga, Tennessee, calls in with a rental property just across the state line in Georgia with three identical houses twenty feet apart and a history Phil did not know when he bought it. One tenant was beaten to death with a hammer in the driveway. Another died of a fentanyl overdose on the property. The leaseholder's girlfriend had a stroke and was left permanently disabled. The leaseholder himself was given six weeks to live and lasted three. Every tenant reported seeing and hearing someone in the empty middle house. A neighbor told Phil that far more people had died there than Phil knew and that nobody in the neighborhood would dare set foot inside. Phil sold the property and warned the buyer. The buyer said he did not believe in hocus pocus. Two months after closing, the buyer had a medical emergency and was left with permanent disabilities. The property still looks exactly as it did five years ago. The buyer has never touched it.
Lauren from Round Rock, Texas, calls in with a haunting that began after a roommate returned from his older brother's funeral carrying the brother's sentimental belongings back to the shared apartment. That same night, Lauren's younger sister woke up in the living room and heard someone in the kitchen, opening cabinets, pulling drawers, rummaging around. Nobody was awake. Nobody was in the kitchen. Her sister called their mother and asked to be picked up before dawn. After that night, the kitchen cabinets started opening by themselves regularly. Every cabinet. Every drawer. Including the ones too high to reach. Lauren saw it herself when she and her friend fell asleep with the deadbolt locked and woke up to find every single cabinet and drawer in the kitchen standing open. Her sister had no knowledge of the brother's belongings being in the apartment before her sleepover encounter. She had no reason to be afraid. She was afraid anyway.
Three real callers. Three true ghost stories. This is where Tell Me A Ghost Story began.

[00:00:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And I was looking at the house in the middle that was always empty and I saw a face.
[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Welcome to Tell Me A Ghost Story.
[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_04]: The late night call-in podcast where we delve into the world of the supernatural and explore
[00:00:29] [SPEAKER_04]: the eerie and unexplained.
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm your host, Michelle Newman.
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_04]: This podcast features true stories from our callers that will send shivers down your spine
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_04]: and leave you questioning the existence of the afterlife.
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_04]: So grab a cozy blanket, turn down the lights.
[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, I'm Cindy and I'm calling from Avon, Indiana.
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I have a true ghost story to tell you.
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm haunted by the little girl from Mitchell, Indiana, Westmoreton State, Rachel.
[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_01]: She burned in death in a Christmas fire and she haunts me because I gave her two saffols
[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_01]: of toys two years ago at Christmas but she has followed me home and haunted me ever since
[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and I've had two ghost stories on YouTube about her and about her antics.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I had a ghost investigation on my birthday.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I retired from Indiana State Police after 30 years, civilian, and she haunted me at
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: my birthday party and we did capture some EVPs from Commonwealth, Kentucky of Indiana
[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and Westgate and Rachel is ruined to me too.
[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Plus we got some other alien energies I'd like to tell you about.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: She possesses a haunted doll in mind and she haunts me to this day.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you for calling in Cindy.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure I speak for our fellow callers.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_04]: We want to hear all your stories.
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Next message.
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: My name is Phil from Chattanooga, Tennessee.
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: About five years ago I purchased a property just across the state line in Georgia.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: The property had three houses and these were identical and they were about 20 feet apart.
[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Two of the properties were livable and had tenants in them and the property and
[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_00]: the house in the middle had no tenant and it was not livable.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And the two guys that were working there, living there, they ended up hiring them
[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: to work for me and it wasn't long after maybe six months after I bought the property that
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: one of the guys was murdered in the driveway.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: He was beaten to death with a hammer.
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, a few months later, the other guy that lived in there, he moved
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_00]: in his girlfriend and he moved in his girlfriend's adult son.
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't long after the adult son moved in that he died on the property from an overdose
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: of fentanyl.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And then not long after that, the lease holder's girlfriend, she had a stroke and she laid
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: in the house for several hours and ended up with permanent disabilities.
[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And not long after that, 30 days after that approximately, the lease holder, he had to
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: go to the hospital and he was told that he had six weeks to live.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: He lasted three, so he died at the property.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And by that time I was, I think, wow, this thing, there must be cursed or something.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And all three of the, all the tenants that ever lived there, they told me that they could
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: see somebody and hear somebody in the empty house in the middle.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And I just happened to be at the house one day and the gentleman next door lived across
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: the street, brother.
[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And he motioned me to come over and he was telling me about the house and I was,
[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, telling him what happened.
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And he's not told him, in the house cursed or something.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And he told me that there had been a lot more than the people that I knew had died
[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_00]: in that property.
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Then I mentioned, hey, how come?
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not a very good neighborhood.
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's never been vandalized.
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm kind of like the property and the old man said, well, not anyone
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_00]: in this neighborhood will dare set foot in that property.
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: So I decided to sell it and I told the guy who bought it, he was an investor.
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: He was going to demo the three and put a duplex there.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And I gave him the info of all the issues I had with it and he told me
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: he didn't believe in that hocus pocus and he bought the property and I met
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_00]: him out there one night, one evening rather to finalize the paperwork.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And just after dark, I was sitting in the driveway and I was waiting for him to show up
[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: and I was looking at the house in the middle that was always empty.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And I saw a face that was peering out the glass.
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I could not make out any distinctive features, but it was a face.
[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And a few months later he shows up.
[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: He signs the paperwork, we shake hands.
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And two months later, he had a medical emergency and he ended up
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: with permanent disabilities himself.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_00]: At this point when I've been by that property, it still looks like it did five years ago.
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: He never touched it.
[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_00]: He still owns it and I'm not sure if he's ever going to touch it.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But the absolute truth is the place is haunted and maybe cursed.
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you for calling in Phil from Chattanooga.
[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm happy you ended up selling that place.
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_04]: You did that guy a solid by warning him about all that hocus pocus.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_04]: I did some research and there's no death disclosure requirement
[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_04]: in real estate in Georgia.
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_04]: But maybe there should be some sort of regulation for curses.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Next message.
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Hi, my name is Lauren.
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I've actually called in before regarding another incident that I had seen,
[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_02]: but I didn't even think about this particular incident
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_02]: that I'm going to talk about that happened whenever I was actually
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_02]: freshly out of high school.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_02]: A friend of mine, she had this apartment
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: and it was in Round Rock, Texas.
[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I'd stayed over at this apartment with her numerous times.
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_02]: No issues. Nothing had ever happened.
[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing even remotely spooky ever.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_02]: And then she also lived in this apartment with another couple.
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_02]: It was her and then it was a couple, a guy and a girl.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: And they occupied the other bedroom in this apartment.
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_02]: And unfortunately, during the duration of time that they looked together,
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_02]: the older brother of the male roommate had passed away suddenly
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_02]: in a drowning incident where he was trying to save somebody else.
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_02]: That was, I guess, drowning in a body of water
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_02]: and then he himself actually drowned.
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_02]: And so this guy, he ended up going to the funeral
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: and whenever he came back from the funeral,
[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_02]: he had brought some of his brothers, like sentimental belongings,
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_02]: a few of them back with him to their apartment,
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_02]: the shared apartment in Round Rock.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_02]: And he and I felt that was my friend,
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_02]: she had like a birthday celebration because it was her birthday
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_02]: and we had all gone out.
[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_02]: The roommates, my friend, myself and my younger sister
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_02]: had all gone out to eat.
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And then they came back to the apartment
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_02]: and it was already late
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_02]: and so everybody was going to sleep and all that.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_02]: And so my friend went to her room
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_02]: and the couple roommate, they went to their room
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_02]: and then my sister and I slept in the living room
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_02]: and I passed out first out of my sister and I.
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_02]: And this is before my sister could drive or anything
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_02]: and so I remember I woke up the next morning
[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and my sister was gone and I was like, what the heck?
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: So I looked at my phone
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: and my mom had sent me a text message saying
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_02]: that she had come to get my sister early that morning.
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Didn't really go into detail as to why,
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_02]: just saying that my sister wanted to leave.
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And so I didn't really ask any questions,
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I just kind of assumed maybe she got bored,
[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_02]: she couldn't sleep or whatever.
[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And I believe it was my mom that was telling me
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_02]: that my sister called her really early in the morning,
[00:09:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I wanna say, that following morning after the birthday
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_02]: stating that she was so scared
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_02]: because she heard somebody in the kitchen,
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_02]: nobody was awake but she swore
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_02]: that she heard somebody in the kitchen
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_02]: like ruffling around opening and closing doors,
[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_02]: cooling up, whatever, ruffling around
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_02]: and she freaked out.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_02]: And she asked my mom to get her
[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_02]: and my mom came and got her and took her home
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_02]: and that was that.
[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_02]: And she's never mentioned it to me again since
[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_02]: but my mom still remembers the incident
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and I thought that was crazy.
[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_02]: And then shortly thereafter, right?
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Because that didn't sort of happen
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_02]: and I put it out on my mind.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_02]: And then afterwards, my friend,
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_02]: she started telling me about how
[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_02]: they started having these incidents
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_02]: where every single kitchen cabinet in their kitchen
[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_02]: would be open, like randomly.
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Nobody would be in the apartment.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody would have been at work, whatever.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody would sleep, whatever the case may be
[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_02]: and then it would wake up or come back home
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and every single kitchen cabinet would be open
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_02]: including the ones that were way high
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_02]: at the top that nobody could reach.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Ironically, there was one day
[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_02]: particularly that my friend in Iowa
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_02]: we were hanging out, her roommates were at work
[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_02]: and I don't know, we got tired
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_02]: so we ended up going to her room
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_02]: and I fell asleep on her futon
[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_02]: as she fell asleep in her bed in her room
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_02]: with the door shut, nobody else in the apartment,
[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_02]: dead bolts, you know.
[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Nobody was in the apartment other than us.
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And when we woke up, I remember we were like,
[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_02]: woke up and we like obviously went out into the apartment
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and then we looked in the kitchen.
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I saw for myself every single cabinet,
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_02]: every drawer pulled out open in the kitchen
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_02]: and neither one of us had been out there.
[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Nobody had come into the apartment or anything
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_02]: but it was pretty weird how like after that
[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_02]: brother's stuff had been brought in,
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_02]: how all that stuff started to happen in the apartment.
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: So we never really found out an answer for that
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_02]: and like to this day I have no idea what that was or,
[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_02]: you know, and also a two side note,
[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_02]: my sister didn't know anything about the brother's stuff
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: being brought into the apartment prior to her
[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_02]: having that incident in the kitchen
[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_02]: or hearing somebody in the kitchen while everyone was asleep
[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_02]: so she had no bias in her mind or whatever
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_02]: that made her scare her.
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_02]: So it was pretty weird.
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you, Lauren for your story.
[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_04]: This is getting added to the what is going on in Texas file.
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_04]: That's all we have this week folks.
