The Man in the Black Suit, Turnbull Canyon Mist

Tyler, from Ohio, was an ICU nurse. You'd be surprised at how much the paranormal is part of the job. Natalia from Norwalk and her friend saw something... and so did the cop.

[00:00:02] Welcome to Tell Me A Ghost Story. The late night call in podcast where we delve into the world of the supernatural and explore the eerie and unexplained. I'm your host, Michelle Newman. This podcast features true stories from our callers that will send shivers down your

[00:00:32] spine and leave you questioning the existence of the afterlife. So grab a cozy blanket, turn down the lights. I'm Tyler from Ohio. So I was a nice eunuch and I worked the night shift, 7P to 7A.

[00:00:56] And one night I had a patient in the very back last room of the unit. It used to be an office and they had transitioned it into more patient rooms. So when I went in the night everything was normal. I was taking care of an elderly female.

[00:01:21] And around midnight or so I had to go back in the room and I was speaking with a patient. And she said I was standing at the computer and there was chairs and the corner was behind me.

[00:01:37] And she said, I was just talking to her about the day. And she mentioned something about a man in a black suit behind me. They're sitting in the corner. So naturally I was curious. So I asked her, are you seeing them right now? Are they related to you?

[00:02:00] Is this a family member? She said no. No, I don't know them. He's been here with me all day. And I asked her to describe him to me. She said he's just a tall man in a black suit. He's been sitting here with me all day.

[00:02:15] He's sitting in the corner right now. And I mean I needless to say I got chills pretty quickly. You know I'm looking behind me and I asked her have you spoke to him or as he said anything.

[00:02:31] And she said no, he's just been sitting here with me all day long. So I said okay and I asked her if there's anything else she needed and then no. She was fine so went along with my shift. Nothing else really notable happened.

[00:02:46] And not while I was on shift next time I was back I asked the staff you know and checked to see what happened with that patient and they said that it was probably a day or so after when I saw her that she had passed away.

[00:03:05] I've had several encounters like that where family members in the ICU or in the hospital that are nearing death will witness their mothers, their fathers or family members. And every time I would ask them oh did they come and visit you today? Or are they still alive?

[00:03:29] Are they still with us? No, they've passed. That was a common occurrence in the hospital in the ICU. So yeah very creepy. That was one of the more uneasy moments that I've had in the hospital. Thanks. Thank you Tyler from Ohio. You know what's interesting?

[00:03:55] When my grandmother was in hospice she said she was being visited by someone she called the metaphysicist who would come and fly around the corners of her room. Within a few days she passed away. I wonder if the metaphysicist was wearing a black suit. Next message. Hello.

[00:04:17] My name is Natalia and I'm from the city of Norwalk in California. My story began let's say about, I want to say about 15 years ago roughly. It was during the time that I liked to go on night drives with my friend Felipe.

[00:04:46] Whenever we were bored we would just like to drive around listening to music and things like that. On this particular night we were extremely bored and he had just gotten a new stereo installed

[00:05:00] in his car and he said like, hey let's go for a drive and then let's pull over somewhere and watch a movie like a scary movie or something. I didn't have anything else to do so I was like alright let's go.

[00:05:13] And we decided to go to this local spot called Turnball Canyon. Just located in the Whittier Hills. It's famous and known for having paranormal activity and people reporting ghosts, separations and things like that. It's the type of ghost stories that you hear when you're in high school.

[00:05:41] So we decided to go and watch a scary movie out there. So we started driving and to get into Turnball Canyon it first starts off in like the nice neighborhoods of Whittier and then you start going into the mountain and up winding roads

[00:06:03] till you get to the very top. And from the top you can see pretty much the Los Angeles skyline in the distance but that's pretty much the only light that you see apart from like a couple of the big houses that are up there.

[00:06:23] So where we pulled over it was extremely dark and you know we thought it'd be a good idea to start watching the conjuring up there. That was probably the scariest movie that we had seen at the time so we were like yeah

[00:06:42] let's just go freak ourselves out and watch a scary movie in a really dark place. So we were watching, we were parked. There's no really other cars around me and then all of a sudden on my peripheral vision

[00:07:01] on my right side kind of looked like a shadow at first. Like I thought that's what I saw at first and then you know I looked over and it looked like a white mist. But I kind of just ignored it and continued to watch the movie.

[00:07:18] I did notice that my friend Felipe, I kept on seeing him look through the rearview mirror and also on his left side mirror and he was kind of like you know losing concentration in the movie.

[00:07:33] But every time that he did that I was also seeing things on my side. You know to eventually you know I looked at him and I was like hey like did you see something and he was like whoa what did you see?

[00:07:51] I don't know how to explain this but basically it came down to we basically were seeing the same thing in the rearview mirrors and also in the side mirrors and it started to get really eerie because it was happening a lot like throughout the time that we were

[00:08:11] watching the movie. But what was weird about this particular mist that we were looking at was that it didn't move around like it was fog. It seemed to move around more intelligently if that's how I could describe it you know

[00:08:32] it like moved around like kind of circling us and kind of like just going around the car type of thing and I've never seen fog or mist move around like that which that was the part that was starting to kind of make me feel very eerie.

[00:08:57] And I could tell that it was making Felipe very uneasy as well. And you know with all the folklore and all the stories that people tell about Turnbull Canyon you know it just kind of sends a chill down your spine. Then of course a cop shows up.

[00:09:17] Cop shows up and he pulls right behind us and he is like hey like he shines the flashlight out over at Felipe because he's on the driver's seat and he's like what are you guys doing

[00:09:28] here blah blah like you're not supposed to be here it says no parking. And he flashed his light over to this no parking sign that we could barely see because it was so dark and there was a bunch of bushes around.

[00:09:42] So he was talking to us and you know being a cop doing his questioning and all that when all of a sudden he had the flashlight on Felipe while he was talking to him and then

[00:09:59] he like quickly spun around like he heard something like footsteps or something around him. And you could tell that he was kind of startled because he was kind of like moving his flashlight around and we kind of like did you see something?

[00:10:22] And then he was like nah I just thought I saw some movement and we told them well yeah we were actually kind of getting ready to leave before you pulled up because we've been

[00:10:33] seeing some kind of movement like a foggy misty thing moving around the car but it seemed to be moving intelligently rather than you know the way that normal fogs and mist move. And he was like oh yeah like that happens a lot up here.

[00:10:55] There's a lot of reports saying all kinds of things. There's all kinds of stories about rituals, hauntings you know some people say that it was a dumping ground for the mob back in the day and things like that so yeah definitely

[00:11:12] all kinds of stories surrounding Turnbull Canyon but anyway he was like you guys should you better get out of here and that's when the infantry people were like yeah let's just get out of here so when we started driving, started the car and we started taking off

[00:11:30] but we both looked in the mirrors looking back and the cop was kind of still like shining as light and looking around the bushes and things like that kind of like he just seemed a little stumped and like kind of freaking out.

[00:11:49] Yeah you could tell that he was still like looking around when we were driving off. And I remember thinking to myself like oh my god like I wouldn't want to be the patrolman

[00:12:02] that's up here just because of all the stories that have been told like you know like they're out at night and things like that like who knows the type of things that they've seen or heard.

[00:12:16] Several years later you know I was at a like a horror convention and there was many podcasters there and people started sharing stories of things that have happened to them and there was one particular gentleman that described almost to the tea the same thing

[00:12:31] that happened to us so I feel like that just makes the experience all the more terrifying and more real. Thank you for coming in Natalia. I think you almost became an urban legend. That's all we have this week folks. Do you have a ghost story? Call 701-484-2666.
