True Ghost Stories: Marilyn Monroe's Ghost, 300 Bodies in a Barn, Dogman, and the Tall Man

True ghost stories from real people, told through haunting phone calls. This week on Tell Me A Ghost Story nine callers share real paranormal encounters including the ghost of Marilyn Monroe walking a California beach, a black mirror warning that turned out to be real, the Tri-State Crematorium in Georgia where 300 bodies were found unburied, an American Dogman repelled by a silver coin chest, the Tall Man who has become the artwork for a new paranormal podcast, and a Los Angeles hostel that shook like an earthquake that never officially happened. Every single one of these calls is real.

Hey, it's Michelle Newman, and this is one of the richest episodes in the archive.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana calls in with a story from 1977, walking a Hollywood Beach with her grandparents shortly after high school graduation. A woman in a white evening gown approached them, disoriented and unsure of who she was. It was Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe's spirit has been independently reported across Los Angeles for decades, in her home, on the Santa Monica Pier, and in hotel powder rooms from the El Capitan to the Hollywood Roosevelt.

Adam from Decatur, Illinois has spent over twenty years working in the paranormal field and always dismissed the question of whether something could follow him home. That changed in the summer of 2016 after he and his friend Jake used a black mirror for scrying inside a house built on a Native American burial ground with a history of murder and fire. Nothing happened during the session. But when Adam pulled into his own driveway at 1 AM, he felt an overwhelming silent presence behind him.

Lisa, an Aboriginal woman of the Gomeroi Nation based in Queensland, Australia, calls in about a Tall Man who stood in her bedroom doorway when she was four years old. Tall, thin, wearing a hat, faceless in her memory but unforgettable in every other way. She never saw him again, but the encounter shaped her enough that she built a paranormal podcast called Proppa Scary around First Nations stories, using the Tall Man himself as the show's artwork.

Phil from Chattanooga, a property manager, shares a story from Noble, Georgia involving a young Marine who took a shortcut through the woods behind his house and found himself surrounded by shadow figures on all sides. Those woods were the grounds of the Tri-State Crematorium, where owner Brent Marsh was discovered to have stored over 300 unburied bodies in a barn rather than cremating them as families paid him to do. 334 bodies were recovered. Only 226 have ever been identified.

Cindy Ketron returns in the same episode with a second story from the 1980s. The power cut out. A growling sound came from outside. Her mother opened the drapes to find a six-foot-tall creature with black hair slapping the sliding glass door, matching descriptions of the Michigan Dogman phenomenon that has generated over 100 independent witness reports since a 1987 radio DJ wrote a joke song about it. Cindy's father drove it off with a chest of silver coins.

Hendel from Long Island describes three nights at a Los Angeles hostel that escalated from unexplainable to physically impossible. A roommate's laughter came from a body position she could not have physically achieved. The following night, the entire room shook violently for twenty seconds, exactly like an earthquake, except no earthquake was ever recorded in Los Angeles that night by any geological tracker.

Christina, host of Espooky Tales on the Scary FM Network, calls in with a childhood memory from Oakland, California. Mocking her younger brother's claims about shadow people, she felt her chair yanked out from under her while all four legs remained solidly on the floor.

Carla shares the shortest and most quietly devastating call in the archive, describing an ongoing relationship with a partner who passed in 2020 that she says continues to this day, documented on film.

And Nellie from Plainview, Illinois returns with a story rooted in Mexican folklore her grandmother warned her about, waking at eighteen to a heavy weight pinning her down and a growling laugh in her ear, exactly as her grandmother described it: se te subió el muerto.
